Allos is ideally located for exploring one of France's natural gems: the Mercantour National Park. The Allos lakeLake Mead, the largest natural high-altitude lake in Europe, is a must-see. Allos is located in the upper Verdon valley. The Col d'Allos and the Col des Champs are closed in winter; it is necessary to come from the south, via Annot and Saint-André-les-Alpes.
By car :
From Marseille, Aix-en-Provence, Manosque : Take the A51 motorway to the "Les Mées" exit. Continue on the RD85 towards Digne-les-Bains, until you reach Barrême. Then take the RD202 to Saint-André-les-Alpes and then towards Val d'Allos.
From Nice : take the RD 202 towards Grenoble, pass through Puget-Thénier, Annot, Colmars-les-Alpes then towards Val d'Allos.
From Lyon or Grenoble : Take the RD 75 via the Col de Lus-la-Croix-Haute to Sisteron. Continue on the RD85 towards Digne-les-Bains, until you reach Barrême. Then take the RD202 to Saint-André-les-Alpes and then towards Val d'Allos.
By public transport : From Nice or Digne-les-Bains, service by the ZOU train of the Chemins de Fer de Provence then connection by ZOU bus from the same station to Val d'Allos.
Allos transforms into a playground for adventure lovers in spring.
From the village you can go hiking and explore the beautiful mountain scenery. This route crosses magnificent forests as well as hamlets, following in the footsteps of the postman before 1950.
For a committed hike and 3000 in sight, heading for Mont Pelat (3 m). The highest point in the Haut-Verdon valley, Mont Pelat is one of the emblematic peaks of the Mercantour National Park.
