Restored and enhanced with a reception and mediation pavilion as well as landscaped areas, the Paraïs of the writer Jean Giono, in Manosque, is an emblematic site of Provence and one of the high places of French literature.

Description

The Welcome Pavilion and its contemplative gardens:
This new facility will offer a flexible space, providing both the services expected in a tourist and cultural site (reception and information, ticket office, bookshop, café, and restrooms) and scenographic displays offering visitors an initial introduction to the site, the author, and their work. This space will also be used to host occasional meetings, screenings, and educational activities related to heritage and literature. Landscaped areas and an educational cabin will complement this outreach program. The Visitor Center will also offer a documentation center, providing researchers and enthusiasts with privileged access to archives and heritage resources.

The house and its heritage garden:
Jean Giono left behind in his home a personal library comprising over 8500 books, letters, photographs, manuscripts, works of art, and furniture. In 1930, he settled on the slopes of Mont d'Or, on the ascent to the heart of true riches, where he would spend his entire life with his wife Elise and their two daughters. Acquired by the city in 2016, and now home to the Friends of Jean Giono association, Le Paraïs is listed on the supplementary inventory of historical monuments, designated a "House of the Illustrious," and an LPO (League for the Protection of Birds) refuge.
The doors open onto a delightful terraced garden and a view of the historic center of Manosque, the setting of the writer's childhood.
