Discover the history of lavender cultivation around Digne-les-Bains, since 1900.

Description

Discover the history of lavender cultivation around Digne-les-Bains and in the Haute-Provence Geopark and immerse yourself in a world of scents.
This museum presents the history of lavender farming in Digne-les-Bains, the historic capital of lavender, and its surrounding areas, from the 1900s to the present day. Upon entering, you will experience the very identity of this rural region. With sound and light displays, you will discover entire sections of local history, life stories, and legends surrounding lavender and its essence. You will learn how, from manual, family harvesting, the region became the leading producer in France. Then, you will want to take a stroll to dive into the surrounding blue fields or discover wild lavender groves, the "baïassières," in the high-altitude lawns and moors. Free lavender distillation demonstrations in July and August.
