The Barcelonnette Mercantour Observatory is a unique center for the discovery of astronomy and nocturnal biodiversity, located in an International Dark Sky Reserve.
Description
On the heights of Barcelonnette, a former military site has been transformed into an observatory.
The Barcelonnette Mercantour Observatory is a unique place combining science, nature, and the stars. Opened in 2024, it invites visitors to immerse themselves in the universe with its 4K planetarium, discover the nocturnal biodiversity of Mercantour, and then contemplate the sky with the historic Refractor of Père Josset. Every night, the starry night vigil celebrates the purity of the Ubaye sky, classified as an International Dark Sky Reserve. Throughout the year, workshops, stories, and events punctuate this journey where curiosity and wonder intertwine.
