Description
Through the artistic installation created on the surface of these rocks, Herman de Vries opens a window onto the past and the invisible, giving us access to a series of geological formations.
Herman de Vries* first came to Digne-les-Bains in 1999 at the invitation of the CAIRN art center. Since then, he has returned regularly, creating works of art at the Gassendi Museum and outdoors. His Windows open onto the Alpine sea of the Secondary: from the top of the Fontarasse ravine, the first two windows allow us to dive into the Triassic period, and the following ones into the Lower Jurassic (Liassic).
"When we cross the Geological Reserve (or Geopark) we most often see gray rocks, mountains, formations. The contents of this massive archive of the past, however, remain largely inaccessible. The small windows opened in a series of geological formations in the form of well-polished rock surfaces give us a small glimpse of the richness contained in these massifs and of a cosmic space. I make visible." Herman de Vries
