Old Montlaux Site

Montlaux is a commune in the heart of Haute Provence and at the foot of the Montagne de Lure.

The municipality of Montlaux has been working since 2017 to safeguard and promote the abandoned medieval village of old Montlaux.
The project was selected by the Bern Heritage Mission in 2021.
The cultural mediation route is also accessible on the municipality's website.

The project to save the remains of Old Montlaux is driven by a need to pass on this history. It is indeed important that we remember the time when people lived up there, when they worked, ate, slept… and even danced. It was another era, a time of people like us, facing customs and challenges that have now disappeared.

The approach was built on this founding idea: to preserve this place of memory before it disappears, so that we can then offer this memory to our contemporaries.

Discover a route made up of seven explanatory panels. Each includes: a text in French, a summary in English, visuals, and a graphic reminder of the route.

To document the natural environment of Vieux Montlaux, panels dedicated to the fauna, flora and geology have also been placed along the road leading up to the village. They help to reveal the full identity of the place.

A physical model of the village is accessible in the space located at the base of the tower, offering an overview of the site and its organization.

The content of the panels, the supplementary documentation and the illustrations are fully accessible from the Montlaux website, so that remote visitors can also access this work of remembrance.
