The Notre-Dame de Beauvoir Chapel can be seen between the two cliffs, overlooking the village. Built between the 12th and 16th centuries, it was listed as a historical monument in 1921. It is partly Romanesque and partly Gothic.

Description

After climbing the 262 steps (formerly 365) of a stone staircase on the hillside, you arrive at the chapel overlooking the village. The seven oratories that lined the path gave way in 1860 to the fourteen stations of the Way of the Cross, decorated much later with earthenware tiles made by Simone Garnier.

The small chapel was built at the end of the 12th century on the remains of a Marian temple erected in the 5th century. A successful marriage of the Romanesque and Gothic periods, it comprised two bays with pointed barrel vaults, corresponding to part of the current nave; the other two bays and the Gothic choir were added in 1536, a date engraved on the triumphal arch.

Like several other chapels in the Alpine region, the sanctuary of Notre Dame de Beauvoir is known for its "resurrections." In the 17th century, stillborn children were brought back to life there during their baptism, thus reaching heaven.
