Barrême is known worldwide by geologists who regularly use the "Barrémian". The Louis Maurel Collection was bequeathed to the Municipality. The exhibition is visible during the opening hours of the Town Hall.

Description

During what geologists call the Secondary Era, between 250 and 65 million years ago, Barrême, like all of Provence, was covered by the sea. This sea, or rather these seas, were populated by animals called ammonites. We have preserved their fossils. Here, the ammonites are particularly beautiful, sometimes very rare, with their unrolled shapes. We carefully preserve them as a souvenir of the sea and for the pleasure of the eyes.
