The law of July 07, 1881 declared the construction of the Manosque Canal to be of public utility. The land acquisition and construction work were carried out by the State between 1881 and 1926, at the request of Oswald Bouteille.
Description
The Manosque canal was definitively handed over to the ASCM in 1926.
The Manosque Canal Syndicate Association (ASCM), created by the decree of December 08, 1892, a local public institution, has the mission of operating, maintaining and modernizing the raw water supply works for which it is responsible. These works consist of a 53 km main canal, running from the Escale dam in Châteaux-Arnoux to the Corbières ravine, as well as 179 km of a secondary network of channels also called filioles. Thus, members, owners of plots of land within it, can be supplied with raw water, if they connect to the network, in particular for watering ornamental gardens, vegetable gardens or crops. The ASCM also delivers, through its main canal, raw water to other structures, at the level of the withdrawal points of their own networks, such as:
• The ARKEMA Saint-Auban factory for the fire
• The City of Peyruis for fire and raw water supply to 215 Peyruisian homes
• The Authorized Syndicate Association of the Islands of Palun and the Islands of Durance for the supply of the Durance water table,
• The Société du Canal de Provence for the supply of raw water to its own customers.
