The coat of arms of Manosque under the Saunerie and Soubeyran gate is a fairly simplified representation of our coat of arms: a shield with 4 hands, usually surmounted by the 4 gates of the City and the motto "Omnia in manu dei sunt".

Description

Everything is in God's hand.
Quarterly azure and gules; 1st and 3rd a dexter hand empalmed argent; 2nd and 4th a sinister hand of the same.
We don't know the meaning of these hands. So we rely on suppositions, several historians have looked into the problem and put forward hypotheses:
- the 1st: Manosque in the Middle Ages was made up of 4 districts and had 4 gates, 4 churches, 4 rivers... The number 4 came up a lot.
- the 2nd: the 5 fingers of the hand represented the 5 villages built around the Bourg after the passage of the Saracens and the 4 hands for the 4 districts.
- the last one: Manosque in the Middle Ages was called Manuesca and people, wanting to make a talking coat of arms, thought that Manuesca came from the Latin Manus which means hand.
These are 4 "palm-faced" hands (represented from the palm side of the hand); there were 2 left hands and 2 right hands.
