As if sunbathing, the village of Pierrerue stretches along its two main streets lined with pretty houses with flower gardens, trellises and pontins.
Description
Petra Rupta, 11th century
Inhabited since antiquity, the village is located on a strategic point and was the subject of several changes of ownership during the Middle Ages, according to successive power takeovers. At this time (during the 12th century), there were at least two distinct villages; the upper village around the church of St-Antoine and the lower village around the church of St-Pierre de Pierrerue.
The Romanesque Church of the Blessed Sacrament was rebuilt in the 19th century. It retains older parts, such as the nave, which is three bays long, and its flat chevet. The capitals, decorated with foliage, and the choir are Gothic (14th or late 15th century). Its nativity scene dates from the mid-19th century.
In the hamlet of Saint-Pierre, the delightful little Romanesque chapel of Saint-Pierre-de-Viviers welcomes the walker with a green meadow and two beautiful lime trees for a beneficial stop. It is a former priory dependent on the Ganagobie Abbey. Pretty views of the village of Lurs.
In the village, a bistro-restaurant, a friendly farmers' market on Saturday mornings and a church which hosts high-quality concerts energize the village.
Discover the village via the Grand'Rue and the Rue de la Ferraille, the Church of the Blessed Sacrament (13th century). A round fountain from 1887 in the heart of the village, a bell-shaped belfry (1789), pretty facades and ornate doors in the hamlet of Saint-Pierre and its chapel (late 11th century).
