The Sentinel is part of the Refuge d'art project, which consists of a route of nearly 150 km through the Haute-Provence Geopark, imagined and created by Andy Goldsworthy, a British artist and major figure in Land Art.
Description
The landscapes of the Haute-Provence Geopark are a source of inspiration for a large number of internationally renowned artists. Among them, Andy Goldsworthy holds a special place.
Within the Haute-Provence Geopark, artists have been creating works since 2000, with the support of the CAIRN art center, revealing the natural, historical, cultural, and social specificities of the territory. These works thus constitute a contemporary heritage that links artistic creation, memory, and local development.
The Authon sentinel is installed at the edge of the departmental road; it marks one of the gateways to the Geopark. Here, the marls compose a landscape of dark, poetic and fragile hills, witness to the ancient presence of the sea. Approaching this mineral universe, Andy Goldsworthy designed an original work, composed of stones assembled using the dry stone construction technique.
