Tower of the southern front of the city wall, rebuilt in the 1370s, during the reconstruction of the wall by the Community of Inhabitants in the context of the Hundred Years' War.
It is classified as a Historic Monument by the 1875 list.

Description

With its machicolation consoles, its six original crossbows spread over two levels and the three superimposed arcades opening its gorge on the city side, it is similar to the two other neighboring towers. It is distinguished by the low barrel vault (1892th century) which covers its ground floor. This tower, known as the college tower, owes its name to the college located at the back, whose construction in 1875 would have led to its destruction, without the classification as a Historic Monument of the five preserved towers, by list of XNUMX.

An integral part of the defensive system developed by the people of Sisteron to protect themselves from the bands of looters who infested Provence, it resisted numerous pressures, notably from those who, seeing it as a symbol of feudalism, wanted its demolition.
