The Bòri is a traditional dry stone construction that served as a temporary shelter during periods of agricultural work. It dates back to the end of the 19th century.
Description
Having become a municipal building in 1999, it was restored in 2004 and 2005. A lime binder and grouting were reused during its restoration: this is one of its unique features.
Alone in the commune of Manosque, the Bòri, known as “Sugar Loaf” due to its shape, is remarkable for its construction, its location and the landscape it offers for contemplation.
Inside, a fireplace was used to cook food and, if necessary, to keep warm; a slit let in the air needed for combustion. A second level, which has not been restored, could be used for sleeping or storing crops. The cellar kept food and crops cool.
