A former bishopric located on the banks of the Asse River, Senez is a village steeped in history with a rich and well-preserved cultural heritage. A stopover on the imperial route, Napoleon stopped here to visit its cathedral, now a listed historical monument.
Description
Located on the left bank of the Asse, the village is accessible by a superb stone bridge dating from 1770. A former bishopric until the French Revolution, the village contains numerous archaeological remains. Its imposing Romanesque-style cathedral, listed as a Historic Monument, contains extraordinarily well-preserved furnishings: tapestries from Flanders and Aubusson, stalls and altarpieces from the 16th and 17th centuries...
Then, as you wander through the village streets, you will pass a listed fountain, the old seminary, the old lavender distillery...
For hiking enthusiasts, the village is crossed by the imperial road which connects Castellane to Digne les Bains.
