The first building, corresponding to the eastern part of the current castle, was built at the end of the 14th century. Remodeled several times, it now houses the town hall and the Maison des Gorges museum, among other things.

Description

From the end of the 14th century or the beginning of the 15th century, a castle or fortification appears to have been built on the site of the current castle, at the western end of the village which had developed from the church and a possible ecclesiastical stronghold over the past few decades.
It is likely that a closed courtyard accompanied the castle from this period.
This first castle became the property of the Demandolx family at the beginning of the 1744th century. However, for the most part, the current appearance of the castle is the result of major development and expansion work carried out between XNUMX and the Revolution.
The castle, confiscated during the Revolution, was divided into lots and then sold to the inhabitants of La Palud. On the 1835 land registry, it was shared between 18 owners. Following the sale, a potter's workshop was set up in the southeast corner; it remained active until 1927. The construction of the staircase at the southern end of the west facade probably dates from this period. The castle was bought by the commune in 1984 and numerous and important restoration and renovation works were carried out between then and 2010.
