Description
Dominating the village of Allemagne in Provence from its rocky promontory, the Church of Saint-Marc has watched over its inhabitants for centuries. Its bell tower, topped with a weather vane, houses a bell dating from 1666.
The current building, rebuilt after 1550, harmoniously blends styles: a Romanesque nave to the north, remodeled in the XNUMXth century, and a more recent south nave, connected by large arcades. The façade is from the XNUMXth century, but the bell tower and choir date back to the XNUMXth century.
Inside, we discover two 17th century paintings:
A Rosary illustrating the 15 mysteries of the Virgin
An Annunciation, probably from a large workshop
The tabernacle features 15th century elements, further adding to the richness of the place.
In the past, other chapels dotted the surrounding area, now disappeared, such as Notre-Dame-de-la-Colle or Saint-Éloi, where horses were blessed on Saint-Jean's Day.
