Description
At an altitude of 600m, in the centre of a vast natural valley known since ancient times as the "Absinthe Valley", overlooks a land that has been sacred from prehistory to the present day.
Perched on this sandstone promontory is the Cistercian abbey of Valsaintes, where monks lived from the 12th century until the French Revolution. All around it flourishes a unique garden, awarded the "Remarkable Garden" label by the French Ministry of Culture.
Following the terraced paths, you can wander through floral spaces rich in 350 varieties of roses combined with wild or introduced flora. You will walk along "La Voie des Roses," a chronological journey through the history of the rose. You will encounter a dry garden with its 250 species and varieties of plants adapted to drought and cold, and a permaculture vegetable garden. The fully restored XNUMXth-century abbey church can be visited as you wander through the garden.
