A niche is a reinforcement made in the thickness of a wall to place a statue there. They only appeared around the 15th century. In Roman times, their function was to lighten the significant masses of their monument.

Description

The upper cone represents a scallop shell. This recalls the pilgrimages to Santiago de Compostela (the presence of the Presbytery above can confirm this). It is also a protective symbol. The statue has disappeared.
