

A niche is a reinforcement made in the thickness of a wall to place a statue there. They only appeared around the 15th century. In Roman times, their function was to lighten the significant masses of their monument.
Description
The corner niche contains a statue of the Virgin Mary, previously there was a statue of Saint Denis. It is located on the site of the former Chapel of the Penitents built in 1661 on Rue Auguste Brun. It was already in ruins in 1892.
Saint Denis was born 9 years after the arrival of the "SAVIOR" into a noble family of Athens. He carried the word of Christ with Saint Paul and lived to the age of 106. He was beheaded on the 9th day of October in the year 117.
