CAIRN (Centre for Informal Art and Research on Nature) is committed to rereading, interpreting and reconfiguring the territory that surrounds it through the eyes of artists such as Mark Dion, Delphine Gigoux-Martin, herman de vries, Andy Goldsworthy...
Description
Founded in 2000 at the initiative of the Gassendi Museum, the Cairn is designated a National Interest Art Center, along with the Gassendi Museum and the Alexandra David-Neel House, within the artistic and museum hub of Digne-les-Bains. It offers an artistic and cultural program throughout the year and hosts artists for creative residencies.
The projects undertaken by artists invited by Le Cairn may result in exhibitions or, more exceptionally, the creation of permanent, site-specific works that join the "Art in the Mountains" collection at the Gassendi Museum within the UNESCO Haute-Provence Geopark. Conceived in relation to their context and scattered near villages or along trails, these works invite visitors to discover the landscapes they traverse in a new light, offering a fresh perspective on the sites, history, and local traditions.
The Cairn is part of BOTOX(S), the Alps and Riviera contemporary art network, of dca / French association for the development of contemporary art centers and of the ELAN network (European Land Art Network) and it benefits from the financial support of the Ministry Culture/DRAC Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region and the town of Digne-les-Bains.
