The Maison du Bois et de la Forêt in Méolans-Revel is a lively and fun discovery museum that offers you a visit and demonstrations on the fascinating world of trees, forests and wood.
Description
The exhibition space will introduce you to the life of trees, forests, and their biodiversity through numerous interactive activities. Examine leaves under a microscope, walk through the tunnel of the forest floor, observe wildlife from the hide, and don't forget to touch and smell the different types of wood.
Part of the exhibition is dedicated to the "wood industry," where you will learn more about the professions and multiple uses of this noble and renewable material. You will also discover how the forest protects us from natural hazards.
Even the youngest visitors can fully enjoy the visit: wooden games, a hiding tree, a storytelling hut... Here, everything is designed to make learning fun!
The second part of the visit takes place in the carpentry workshop, with a humorous woodturning demonstration. Afterwards, you can ask the instructor all your questions and become experts on wood and its uses!
The self-service woodcraft shop allows you to discover the work of around ten local artisans who offer turned tableware, toys, games and wooden jewelry, decorative objects, furniture... The ideal opportunity to leave with a unique and local souvenir!
Every Thursday morning in summer, don't miss the visit to the old hydraulic sawmill (reservation required): an immersion in the forest, at the pace of the sawyer-farmers of the 1930s.
The Maison du Bois et de la Forêt also offers workshops for young carpenters for children aged 7 and up: cutting, drilling, sanding, pyrography… an introduction to woodworking and a moment of creativity, to leave with a "handmade" object.
