It was not until the middle of the 17th century that the parish church of Saint Martin was established in the village.
Description
The land on which to build it was only approved by the bishop in 1641. This church is described as parish, equal to that of Bas-Vernet which was built at the same time. The Saint-Martin church also has a cemetery and all the sacraments are administered there; this duality will be the cause of numerous and long conflicts of precedence between the two parishes.
During his visit in 1683, the bishop noted: "This Saint-Martin church is located at the end of the village. There is an altar with a painting representing the crucified Jesus, the Blessed Virgin, Saint John on the right, Saint Martin on the left with a painted wooden frame. Next to it there is a wooden bust representing Saint Pancras in which there are relics of the said saint closed and sealed with our seal, the said bust is adorned with a small necklace of fine pearls."
