The title to Saint Domnin calls on the first evangelist of the region, who, with his companion Saint Vincent founded the bishopric of Digne at the end of the 4th century.
Description
Also called Notre Dame du ''fraïsse'' (ash tree), it was the church of the fortified village and the community until the 200th century, accompanied by the cemetery. It is built on the edge of a north-south elongated hill measuring 30 meters by 1196 meters at an altitude of XNUMX meters. It is likely that a tower and ditches defended access to the habitat. The complex was built from the XNUMXth century during the general confinement of villages in fortifications. After the deadly episode of plagues and wars in the XNUMXth century, settlements settled near the Bès in several hamlets: Boyessis, Le Serre, Le Bourguet, Les Jauberts, the latter taking the name of Verdaches. The castrum church was then abandoned and fell into disrepair. The building is in the middle of the modern cemetery which is closed. To the east, in the embankment between the cemetery fence and the road, recent excavations have revealed burials in chests made of slate stone. One of them contained a skeleton of a woman accompanied by a shell, an attribute of the pilgrims of Compostela, which allowed them to draw water from the springs. Some intact pegaus vases have been unearthed in certain tombs.
