Description

The first church of Seyne les Alpes was in the Arénas district (also called St Pierre), this church dedicated to St Pierre could have been founded in the 4th century and, in any case, in the early Middle Ages. It was then replaced by the new parish church: Notre Dame de Nazareth.
The latter was built no later than the 1222th century because several synods or provincial councils took place there between 1371 and XNUMX, convened by the Bishop of Embrun to settle conflicts between local bishops or to recall ecclesiastical discipline.

The Church of Our Lady of Nazareth is a fine example of Romanesque art in Provence. There are two small chapels overlooking the choir, with ribbed vaults, illustrating the transition between late Romanesque art and early Gothic art in Provence. The ornamentation is very sober, except for the capitals, which depict bodies half-devoured by fantastical animals.

Enjoy the mystical atmosphere of Notre Dame de Nazareth to take a break and recharge your batteries mentally and spiritually.
