A group of medieval fountains and wash houses on an ancient site, fed by a permanent spring. A Latin inscription reads "Iterum sities," which means "you will be thirsty."
Description
Established in the 15th century, this beautiful set of medieval wash houses occupies the site of a spring that, in Roman times, supplied the Villa Betorrida. Later, this spring supplied the nearby Saint-Promasse priory (now part of a contemporary farm).
On the side of the watering trough, a plaque still bears a Latin inscription: "Iterum sities" (you will still be thirsty!). The boundary wall dates back to 1617.
Until the construction of the Saint-Pierre and Saint-Michel fountains (1511), the Bonne Fontaine was, along with the now-disappeared Fontaine de la Louette, the only public wash houses in Forcalquier.
