Cruis, perched at an altitude of around 700 meters, is a village whose origins date back to Antiquity. Its location on the Via Domitia, an ancient Roman road linking Italy to Spain, bears witness to its strategic pastAs you stroll through the streets, you will discover stone houses, vaulted passages and fountains that illustrate traditional Provençal architecture.
An emblematic place in the village, the Saint-Martin de Cruis abbey, founded in the 11th century, is a jewel of Romanesque architecture.It surprises with its cloister, its sculpted columns and its church with remarkable furnishings. Among the treasures to be discovered: a gilded wooden altarpiece from the 17th century and ancient santons testifying to local know-how. These carefully maintained remains transport visitors through the centuries.

Cruis is easily accessible by car thanks to its proximity to major highways. From Sisteron (approximately 30 km away), take the D951 then the D53. From Forcalquier (20 km away), take the D12 then the D53. The nearest train station is in Sisteron, served by regional trains.
For travelers coming from further afield, the Aix-en-Provence TGV train station (approximately 100 km away) is a convenient option. Marseille Provence Airport, located 110 km away, allows you to reach Cruis in just over 1 hours by car.
Cruis is the ideal starting point for exploring the Lure mountain, classified as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO.Its marked trails offer varied routes for all levels, rewarding walkers with breathtaking panoramas. The fresh air and surrounding nature offer a complete disconnection. In autumn, the oak forests invite you to stroll under the golden foliage.

From the village of Cruis, a nice 4 hour walking loop alternates gentle climb and gradual descent, crossing varied forests, clearings and meadows with aromatic scents.
