With its windmill built under Louis XIV, proudly standing on its hill, this hilltop village offers a unique panorama. Another feature is its church with a square bell tower built from dry stone.

Description

The village of Montfuron attracts geology lovers because the area is home to all kinds of fossils, including marine fossils.
It enjoys a particularly privileged location, perched at an altitude of 650 meters where you will find a superb orientation table. You will thus be able to put a name to the landscape which surrounds the village.
The Romans themselves took advantage of this geographical dominance by building a Praetorian road to connect with the Via Domitia. This road still exists today, and you can take some lovely, bucolic walks along it.
The town has a remarkable windstone, the Saint-Elzéar Chapel of Sabran, the medieval Notre-Dame church, and the bell tower which dates from the 17th century.

The etymology of Montfuron comes from the Latin Monsfurnorum, meaning mountain of ovens, in reference to the gypsum formerly made in these ovens.
