A few words about Gassendi
Pierre Gassend, known as Gassendi or Gassendy, because at the time fashion had a penchant for Italy, born in Champtercier near Digne-les-Bains on January 22, 1592 and died in Paris on October 24, 1655, was a French mathematician, philosopher, theologian and astronomer.
He became known for his attacks on the theories of Aristotle; he maintained relations with René Descartes with whom he took part in a controversy on the nature of matter.
He is one of the great figures of the 17th century. His work is, however, little known and often underestimated. Indeed, he wrote his works in Latin, which made them difficult to access.
