A sustained hike in the imposing Chiran massif with, at the end, a 360° view and an astronomical observatory.
Description
From the Bas Chaudoul car park, descend 200 m to the small concrete bridge, cross it and take the path on the right which goes around a house. After a short series of hairpin bends, continue on a fairly steep, winding path. You can see the La Clue waterfalls which you will go around on the right. After this rocky landscape, cross the ridge over the marl to arrive in a pasture area. Follow the path across to the Portail de Blieux (1620 m) then climb to the summit of Chiran (300 m of elevation gain over 2.9 km).
A 360° panorama awaits you: North side: Mont Pelat and Estrop, South side: Mourre de Chanier and Grand Mourre, Southwest side: Lake Sainte-Croix. If you have a pair of binoculars in your bag, you will see Mont Ventoux and the Lubéron plateaus.
The return is made by the same route.
