This hike allows you to visit the ancient hamlet of Ville and its chapel of Saint Fortunat. A medieval castle once stood on the ridge overlooking the site. The Notre Dame de Conche chapel, the destination of the hike, offers a superb panorama.
Description
Leave the village by taking a yellow-marked path that starts under Rue des Hautes Traverses. Go down and join Impasse de Crémon, a paved road, then Route des Combettes. Go up it to the intersection with a wide path that will leave on your left in the direction of La Clue (yellow markings). This path offers magnificent views of Lake Chaudanne. It will take you to a paved road located to the right of the Ferme de la Clue. Follow it for about 300m, turn right. Continue climbing for 200m and then leave the road at the second hairpin on the left in the direction of Col de Demandolx (marked in a small meadow and cairn on the ground). The path is very pleasant and climbs very gently.
This pass is the highest point of the outing (1340m). Descend to the left towards the hamlet of Ville. Admire, on your right, the beautiful cliff below La Colle (1413m). Once you reach the hamlet, take the opportunity to climb up to the castle plateau and admire the view of Lake Castillon. From the hamlet, continue the climb on the right hand side on a steeper section of path to the Chapel of Notre Dame de Conche. Return by the same route.
