From the church of Barrême, this circuit combines vegetation and minerals on the Saint-Jean hill. This viewpoint over the Asse and its tributaries contains evidence of the collapse of a limestone cliff that occurred in the Tertiary era.
Description
From the church, find the path of the calade Gauffredy which heads towards the north of the village. Follow it for 440m, joining the path marked in red and white. Follow this GR, continuing the climb until you reach a yellow directional post located at an altitude of 1033m. Then descend towards the west into the ravine of Saint-Martin, and join the Clot de Bramaire. Then admire the site of nummulites: ancient small unicellular aquatic organisms, and the grayish limestones of this section, before descending to the small hamlet of St Jacques. Take this moment to discover the village. Then descend to Barrême by taking the road to Sainte-Jacques (D119). Arriving near the tennis courts, turn right on the path of Saint-Antoine, and return to the church square, the starting point of your excursion.
