



The Lac de l'Escale, located on the Durance at an altitude of 430m, was created by the construction of a hydroelectric dam in the 1960s. It covers 200 hectares in the communes of L'Escale, Château-Arnoux and Volonne.
Description
At the crossroads of L'Escale, Volonne and Château-Arnoux, the Lac de l'Escale, a vast 200-hectare reservoir on the Durance, is an ideal site for outdoor recreation.
Swimming, stand-up paddleboarding, canoeing or fishing... water sports reign supreme in a preserved setting.
This lake, created by a hydroelectric dam in the 60s, is also home to one of the largest wetlands in Provence. An easy walk around the lake allows you to explore reed beds and riparian forest, while observing up to 180 species of birds, both resident and migratory. A peaceful place, perfect for families, hikers, and nature and water lovers.
