Venture into the deep bowels of the Verdon Gorges, from Moustiers-Sainte-Marie to La Palud-sur-Verdon. Explore the Route des Crêtes and its many viewpoints over the gorges. A spectacular route to discover off-season.
Description
The tour begins in Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, a Provençal village nestled between two cliffs and listed among the Most Beautiful Villages in France. The road quickly climbs above Lake Sainte-Croix, with the Valensole plateau as a backdrop.
As you progress towards the heart of the gorge, the spectacular fault of the Grand Canyon is revealed, culminating up to 700 m above the emerald waters of the Verdon. Cross the Col de l'Olivier (718 m) then the Col d'Ayen (1033 m) before reaching La Palud-sur-Verdon for a well-deserved break.
Join the famous Route des Crêtes, 800 meters after leaving the village towards Rougon (follow the direction of traffic). 24 km long, the road is punctuated by numerous viewpoints that follow one another, offering the most beautiful views of the Verdon Gorges, a landscape unique in the world. Memorable.
Back in La Palud-sur-Verdon, descend carefully to Moustiers-Sainte-Marie.
It is strongly recommended to travel this route outside of the summer season and to adjust your schedule. During the summer, the route is very busy, making it dangerous.
