Distance 6km
Elevation 30m
Duration 2h
Walking tour from Entrevennes (the chapels, the plateau, the old
Riez road) of 6 km.
Description
Departure from Entrevennes: terraced streets in a semicircle in the sun, old houses, ruins of the castle, church with a remarkable apse of early Provençal Romanesque art, with a chevet decorated with "Lombard bands" (historic monument).
Recommended route: We recommend starting from the D. 101, east of the village. 400 m away, the cemetery is sheltered against the wall of the medieval chapel of St-Michel, whose facade is flanked by two corner buttresses in the form of turrets, giving it great elegance and a practically unique character.
Continue along the D. 101 for another 15 km. You pass not far from another chapel dedicated to Our Lady and the object of a traditional pilgrimage on the occasion of the patronal feast of August 500. Shortly after, at elevation 692, leave the road which heads towards the Plaine de la Croix and take the Plaine de Notre-Dame track which heads off to the right towards the south, then the southeast. It runs along the watershed above steep slopes invaded by dense vegetation. Almost opposite Entrevennes, the track makes a loop which can be avoided by a shortcut. Continue on this ledge road, facing a superb panorama, extending on all sides. But the most beautiful is undoubtedly the village of Entrevennes, spread out on its hill like a pyramid, well circumscribed by the loop of the road. Anyone who has not seen Entrevennes from this wide belvedere cannot say that they know it. At elevation 666, there is nothing left but the road between the two steep slopes: this is where we meet the ancient road from Riez to Ganagobie and Sisteron.
Beyond, the plateau widens enormously. We give it a wide berth for this time and take the old road north, which takes a hairpin bend to the right at
hair, and will take us back to Entrevennes via the Thoron ravine (abundant springs at the top of the ravine) and the Rome ravine. The current track makes a few wide bends, whereas the old path was straighter. Beyond the Rome ravine, we reach the village via the D. 101.
