Distance 68km
Elevation 506m
Little but strong !
At 1301m, it's the smallest of the 7 passes, but not the easiest! It climbs from the old village of Ubaye, and the terrain isn't the easiest.
Description
As for the Col Saint-Jean, after a 20 km descent which leads from Barcelonnette to Lauzet, then head towards the Serre-Ponçon lake.
Departure from the pass at the height of the old village of Ubaye, flooded by the filling of the dam of which only the cemetery remains, moved upstream along the road.
The climb to the pass is short (barely 5 km) but "old-fashioned": small winding road, numerous hairpin bends, granular tarmac... No respite until the summit.
The percentages are also vintage and vary from 8% to 11% and even more on the exit of the bend.
The reward is worth the effort. The descent with a view of the lake is magnificent.
