Lake Montpezat, nestled in the Alpes de Haute Provence, is a true pearl of the Verdon. Less crowded than its more famous neighbors, this lake offers an intimate experience with nature, ideal for lovers of tranquility and outdoor activities. A few kilometers away, the Gorges de Baudinard extend this idyllic setting with breathtaking landscapes, perfect for exploration.

This journey through time begins at the Verdon Gorges Prehistory Museum in Quinson
a few kilometers from Lake Montpezat and the Gorges de Baudinard.
The trails around the lake and the gorges offer ideal hiking opportunities for nature lovers.
In a less frequented but equally splendid area of the Verdon, this trail reveals a landscape where water and rock meet between two lakes, offering a true visual feast. From the charming village of Saint-Laurent-du-Verdon, this family-friendly walk takes you through fields to the beaches of Lake Saint-Laurent, then climbs the hill of Coteau Chiron, offering breathtaking views of the Verdon, its gorges, and Lake Montpezat.
Located between the Sainte-Croix and Montpezat dams, they belong to the lower section of the Verdon Gorges. However, they have nothing to envy of the upper gorges, with their imposing cliffs.
Pike, perch, and whitefish can be caught from the shore between Montpezat and Saint-Laurent-du-Verdon. For fishing in the middle of the gorges, opt for a watercraft. Access from land is perilous and dangerous.
Although the water surface may appear calm, powerful underwater currents can form due to the turbines of the Sainte-Croix Dam.
The village of Montagnac-Montpezat, which is located near the lake, is a place rich in history and charm.
Known locally as Montagnac-les-Truffes, the town celebrates the feast of Saint-Antoine every year, the patron saint of truffle growers. This village, perched on the Valensole plateau, is surrounded by natural landscapes, ideal for walks and relaxation.
Montpezat, meanwhile, is perched on a promontory overlooking the Baudinard GorgesThe village houses the remains of a castle, offering a breathtaking view of the Verdon valley.
Montagnac-Montpezat is a commune born on January 1, 1974 from the merger-association of the communes of Montpezat and Montagnac, in accordance with the law of July 16, 1971. At that time, Montpezat had very few inhabitants, justifying this union to ensure the administrative and social continuity of the village.
Lake Montpezat is therefore one of the lakes of the Verdon. It is located in the middle of its “two big brothers”:
