Mont Chiran (1,905 m), the second highest peak in the Verdon Prealps, offers an exceptional panorama: from the Southern Alps to Provence, to the Mediterranean and, on a clear day, Mount Canigou. A unique viewpoint for lovers of wide open spaces.

Description

Located in the Montdenier massif, in the heart of the Digne Prealps, Mount Chiran stands out for its imposing silhouette and preserved natural environment. Culminating at 1,905 m, it is separated from its neighbor, Mourre de Chanier, by the Portail de Blieux, a pass at an altitude of 1,595 m. Its limestone rock, inherited from the Upper Jurassic period, bears witness to a geological history millions of years old, shaped by the formation of the Alps.

The Chiran is renowned for its rich landscape and ecology: high-altitude grasslands, Mediterranean and alpine flora, and discreet wildlife. The ascent, accessible to seasoned hikers, takes place in a wild and silent setting, offering vast views of Lake Sainte-Croix, the Valensole plateau, and the surrounding mountains along the way.

Its summit, which houses an observatory-refuge, is a privileged place to contemplate the starry skies and enjoy a horizon as far as the eye can see. Here, the light changes every moment, revealing in turn the nuances of Provence, the Alpine peaks and the distant massifs, for an experience that is at once sporty, contemplative and unforgettable.
