Created in 1984 under the name “Open Days of Historic Monuments” by the Ministry of Culture, the European Heritage Days aim to show as many people as possible the extraordinary richness of our heritage through unique events, unusual visits and exceptional openings.
The best way to protect heritage is to raise awareness of it and ensure access to it. And every year, millions of visitors of all ages gather for European Heritage Days and cross the threshold of exceptional sites and buildings usually closed to the general public.
