Description
Travel back 40 million years, when the sea covered the Castellane region. In these lagoons, peaceful marine mammals, the sirenians, lived!
Perhaps the origin of the myth of the mermaids, their story is told using life-size animal models, films and landscape reconstructions.
At the Col des Lèques, 8 kilometers above Castellane on the road to Digne-les-Bains, lies the Valley of the Fossil Sirens. This paleontological deposit contains hundreds of bones belonging to an ancestor
modern dugongs and manatees. Protected by a site museum, it can be reached on foot in 30 minutes via a well-maintained and comfortable path.
