Jas is a typically Provençal term that refers to a sheepfold, a gîte, or a shelter built away from hamlets. The Alpes de Haute Provence still has many jas to discover during your walks.
Description
The Jas was intended to protect shepherds and their flocks from predators, but also from adverse weather conditions. Most of the time, the jas was built with materials found on site, often dry stones directly removed from the ground by farmers when preparing land for cultivation.
At Moulin de Bicaïl, a nearby river allowed the construction of the Jas from pebbles.
Built with traditional materials, the Jas will welcome you in a warm atmosphere
