It is the oldest in the village, built in the 16th century on this privileged location, high above the village, to benefit from the prevailing winds allowing the threshing of cereals with a flail.
Description
This threshing floor was restored a few years ago and is one of the projects that led to the creation of the Castellum association. It overlooks the village of Castellet and is located at the crossroads of the Val de Rancure and the small valley of La Fouent, which runs perpendicular to it. As a result, this location is almost constantly crossed by a light air current, which made it the preferred location in the past for easily separating wheat grains from their husks after the harvest... at the cost of an additional effort to access this high-up location. Also, at the beginning of the 20th century, when manual and then mechanical fans appeared, this threshing floor was abandoned in favor of others located lower in the village and easier to access.
