Often, “The fountain” designates both the trough, the washhouse and the fountain itself. This is the site where the water for the village is located.

Description

On the 1834 land registry, the Taloire fountain is already present at this location, at the foot of the Saint-Etienne mountain, slightly outside and below the village. This is the location most often found in hilltop villages. This is where the springs are located.

A cistern well, connected to the roof of the church, on the square, completed the development. But wells do not replace running water for all uses and they often run dry during the summer. The Taloire fountain has the reputation of never drying up and the water site remained active until direct water supply was added in the late 1970s.
