The construction of the Saint-André church dates from the end of the 1260th or beginning of the XNUMXth century. It was the parish church of Petra Castellana until XNUMX.
Description
At that date, the population was already more numerous down in the village than perched in Petra Castellana and requested that the parish be transferred to the Saint-Victor church (located in the old center). The Saint-André church was then gradually abandoned. The Saint-André church is a building with a single nave and semi-circular apse. On the south facade, facing you, you can still see the two entrance portals, one large and one smaller, accompanied by three windows built with a semicircular arch. These elements are comparable to those
visible on the facade of the Saint-Victor church. On the west facade, we notice an oculus. During construction, attention was paid to the use of stones, limestone and sandstone, of different colors. No roof element remains and the church is very deteriorated.
In 2019, work on the Saint-André church made it possible to stabilize the exterior of the building. The door arch is now supported by fitted metal work. The remains of the south and west facades have been deeply
reinforced both inside the walls themselves and at the level of all the facings and wall tops. The interior of the building remains very dangerous and access is
prohibited.
