In the harsh landscapes at an altitude of 1200 m, the village of Authon was built around its church. Its "sanctuary of respite," the Sainte Marte chapel, was the site of many miracles.
Description
This chapel housed stillborn children who were not given the sacraments. They would briefly return to life when the priest recited ritual words. The officiant would then baptize them.
Saint Martha also delivered Tarascon from the tarasque, a small greenish animal that she holds in her hand at the end of a ribbon.
The Hospitaller monks of Saint John of Jerusalem, who were the lords of the place from the Middle Ages, had a castle built opposite the church
