It is a bronze statue (1.90 meters) created in 1901 by the sculptor and medalist from Paris, Paul Roger Bloche (1865-1943). An army officer, he also won Olympic medals for the 1924 Winter Games.
Description
The founder is Jaboeuf and Rouard.
Acquired by the State in 1901, it was awarded to the Louvre Museum and then to the Luxembourg Museum (June 27, 1901).
By decree of January 13, 1954, it was deposited in the town of Manosque. It arrived after a journey of several days by train and was erected on the Promenade de la Plaine in February 1954. The decree was renewed on April 16, 1982. In 1986, it was assigned to the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, which is therefore its owner.
There is another example (1.81 meters) on display at the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek in Copenhagen.
