Retrace the steps of the Abadie Necropolis.
Thanks to its explanatory panels as well as its funerary material found during the excavations, you will immerse yourself in the history of "Saint Etienne les Orgues of the 5th century".
Description
In 2011, during preventive excavations, the burial site was partially exhumed. Located at the foot of the Montagne de Lure, on the road to Cruis, this burial site serves as a reminder that our department has been occupied for centuries.
This site has only been partially excavated, however 105 people were buried there, in 70 funerary structures and 2 bone-draining pits. The burials took place from the mid-3rd to the 8th century, which explains the different funerary practices.
Accessories were also unearthed by the archaeology team, including buckles for hose and belts, earrings, rings and hairpins.
After covering the site, the town hall of Saint Etienne les Orgues decided to share these discoveries with everyone by offering you explanatory panels visible at the media library.
