Built in the 12th century, the only remains still visible of the old Glandèves cathedral are an apse preceded by a choir bay and the start of the first bay of the nave.
Description
The remains of the old Glandèves Cathedral in Entrevaux date back to the 12th century. Today, only the apse, a choir bay, and the beginning of the nave remain.
Built on a site occupied since Antiquity, the cathedral succeeded an early Christian building linked to the bishopric of Glandèves, founded in the 5th century. It lost its status as a cathedral in 1603 in favor of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption, but continued to be used for worship until the 18th century.
Its partial destruction in 1775 is linked to the construction of the second diocesan seminary, of which it would have served as a chapel.
