The wine capital of the department, this hilltop village is one of the most picturesque and authentic in the region, surrounded by vineyards and forests. Wine, art, and the "winegrowers' trail" combine to create a unique identity for this charming Provençal village.
Description
Jean Giono described Pierrevert in this way: "This golden village, like a boat carried by a wave of rocks."
Explore this village with its rich heritage, starting with the Saint-Joseph Gate, the only remaining of the four original gates that provided access to the ramparts. It was listed as a Historical Monument by decree of October 27, 1937. In the heart of the village, discover the Voûtes des Arts (Arches of the Arts), which hosts numerous exhibitions during the season. Complete your ascent to the Church of Saint Pierre, dating from the mid-12th century. You can then descend through the narrow streets back to the lower part of the village.
The 14th-century Saint Patrick's Chapel is located near the road to Sainte-Tulle. It is dedicated to an Irish saint who is said to have protected the village from the plague in 1631. Built in the late Romanesque style, it has been restored numerous times and is the site of an annual pilgrimage.
The remains of Château Sainte-Marguerite, also known as Château des Tributiis, consist of a few Renaissance windows incorporated into the current farmhouse, on the courtyard side. These windows are made of plasterwork and date from the mid-16th century. The interior decoration was listed as a Historical Monument by decree of September 20, 2005. The Sainte-Marguerite chapel, a private estate, is located near the road connecting Pierrevert to La Bastide-des-Jourdans, in the vineyards, at the edge of a wood, near the Régusse winery.
On the nature side, there's an 18-hole golf course nestled in a verdant setting, offering breathtaking views of the Durance Valley and the Manosque region, as well as numerous trails in the surrounding hills. Among them, the 4.5 km "Vineyard Trail" is a must-see. Accessible to all, this nearly 2-hour loop will allow you to discover the work of the vines and the winemakers, the traditional grape varieties and wines of the Pierrevert hillside, and also to admire the built heritage along the trail. You can take a break at the Saint-Patrice Chapel, located amidst the olive trees, and plan a tasting at the winery!
Every year, during the summer, the village hosts the Nuits Photographiques festival, which has become nationally renowned.
