Located at the bottom of a valley, on the Rancure torrent, it received its name from a vast and beautiful castle located in the old town district of which no trace remains today.

Description

Formerly, the hilltop village was called Castellum.
At the end of the 14th century, the inhabitants settled in the valley bottom at the junction of the Rancure torrent and that of Puimichel, which allowed the development of agriculture, pastoralism, and the timber industry.

You will discover :
-the heritage trail
- the bread oven
- the ruins of the Ville-Vieille fortified castle;
- fountains and wash houses
- the restored old threshing floor.
-the conservatory of old tools
- the town hall, lit by large rounded windows, dates from 1776. It is decorated with Louis XV style woodwork.

Le Castellet gave birth to Laurens (Louis), a distinguished pharmacist and chemist, professor of chemistry at the Hotel Dieu in Marseille, who published several memoirs, notably on the thermal waters of Digne, Gréoux-les-Bains and Aix.
